Foshan Electrical and Lighting Co., Ltd. was reorganized in October 1992 from the state-owned enterprise Foshan Electrical and Lighting Company (formerly Foshan Light Bulb Factory, established in 1958) into Foshan’s first pilot joint-stock enterprise. In October 1993, it was approved to issue 19.30 million * ordinary shares (A shares) to the public, and in August 1995 it was approved to issue 50 million domestically listed foreign shares (B shares). In December 2000, the China Securities Regulatory Commission approved an additional issuance of 55 million A shares. The company was rated * Listed Company in the comprehensive performance ranking of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 1995; in 1997, it was rated by Hong Kong * as one of China’s Top 100 Listed Companies; in 1999, 2000, and 2001, it was rated by Shanghai Asia Business and China Securities Journal as one of the first, second, and third Top 50 Listed Companies in China with Development Potential. In 2001, it ranked third among 1,171 listed companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges in the selection of “the * blue-chip stocks in my heart,” and in 2001 it was approved as a Guangdong Provincial High-Tech Enterprise. The company is a large-scale key enterprise in China’s electric light source industry, approved by the * Council as an export base for mechanical and electrical products, and enjoys the right to conduct import and export business independently.
